Bob Bryar Needs Your Help

Okay, so maybe you won't be able to help out My Chemical Romance with their next album by singing on it (like Buzznet's own Mark is going to be on the new AFI album!), but that doesn't mean you can't lend a helping hand to the band.  Or at least a single member. What YOU can do...

Very Much Alive 2009 Logo Winner!

I want to open this post once again thanking everyone who participated in the first ever Very Much Alive Logo Contest.  We had over 20 fantastic entries from some of Buzznet's most creative users and narrowing it down to just 5 was difficult.  Which is why I made Buzznet users vote for the winner and the graphic that will represent the group/movement for the rest of the year. And the winner is...

WHAT? Fall Out Boy! OKAY!

Those of you who are purists who believe that rock and hip hop should be kept separate at all times?  You're dismissed.

For the rest of you: guess what!  Fall Out Boy will be collaborating with a Grammy award winning hip-hop star they've worked with in the past!  And considering Fall Out Boy's history with hip-hop acts, that creates a decently long list of possibilities, doesn't it?  After all, Fall Out Boy have worked with Jay-Z, Timbaland, Kanye West and more. Pete Wentz: Father, Bassist, Award Show Host?

Okay, Fall Out Boy fans, you officially have yet another reason to be jealous of your Australia brethren and sisteren.  Because it has been announced that, after finishing up their whirlwind Australian Tour, Pete Wentz will return to the land down under in March to host the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 on Friday the 27th!

As you probably remember, last year Wentz started gaining some hosting experience with his television show F'in MTV, where the nominees for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards were announced.  He and his wife, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz (who was heavily pregnant at the time with the couple's first child, Bronx Mowgli) also performed a few skits at the actual show, encouraging fans to vote for Best New Artist (which was eventually won by seeming underdogs Tokio Hotel) and leading to Pete exclaiming, proudly "That's my wife...AND MY BABY!"  Unfortunately, no word on whether Ashlee and Bronx will be joining Pete on his return trip.

But this is uncharted territory for Pete, the first time he will be hosting an entire show solo.  And there's even more on the line since Fall Out Boy is actually nominated for "Best Rock Video" for "I Don't Care" the first video from their album Folie a Deux.  And while Pete is always ready to take on a new challenge, acting hasn't always been his forte.  But who knows, only time will tell!

Even if Pete can't quite hack it as a host, he might be saved by rocking performances from Sia, Kings of Leon and The Killers.

Do you think Pete will be able to handle hosting duties as well as Katy Perry did when she hosted the MTV Europe Awards?  How do you think he'll stack up to last year's VMA host Russell Brand?  Share your thoughts, feelings, comments and extreme jealousy of the Aussies!

UPDATE: Pete's comment on this situation, via Twitter: the oscars get the worlds sexiest man. the australian mtv awards get the 503,009 most sexy man in the world. seems like an even trade.

My Chemical Romance Turns Down Chance to Do Music for "New Moon"

Stephenie Meyer may have included a few songs by My Chemical Romance on her semi-official soundtracks for the books in her Twilight series, but fans who thought they might hear MCR put out something new for the film adaptions shouldn't hold their breath.  Because while Meyer might think songs like "The Sharpest Lives" and "Sleep" fit her works perfectly, MCR has turned down the chance to provide music for New Moon. Kid Rock: Drinking For a Good Cause

I'm willing to bet that after the Grammy Awards last week, Kid Rock did some serious drinking after he went home empty handed despite being nominated in two categories.

Granted, I'm sure if Kid Rock had won both or either of those categories he would have gotten just as drunk.  The man does like his booze.  Which is probably why he's creating his own.

Kid Rock (born Robert Richie) is working with the Michigan Brewing Company in Webberville, MI, to create a beer branded with his name.  And we're not just talking "his face is on the bottle and he gets residuals."  According to Bobby Mason, the brewery's owner, Rock is participating as much as possible in the beer's creation.  “He’s working on designing the beer, he’s giving me direction, he’s tasting the beers...It’s his idea, it’s his concept. I’m just working with him to make it happen.”

The thing is, Kid Rock is making more than just a new beer happen.  In this time of economic hardship, he's also making the economy happen: the Michigan Brewing Company is investing $7 million in the beer project, which will likely lead to the creation of an estimated 394 jobs.  The company is receiving a $722,957 tax credit from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority in order to make the Kid Rock beer happen.

The beer should be on the shelves by mid-Spring, though it's not clear how far the distribution will reach just yet.  What's important is this: for once a celebrity drinking habit is doing something GOOD for the world at large.

Oh, She's Just Being Sued! I Mean, Being Miley!

Miley Cyrus should really just stop having her picture taken.  Between the waves of photos of the young performer that were much more scandalous than her Disney-based audience was ready to handle and all the scandal surrounding her (fairly tame and heavily artistic) Vanity Fair shoot last year, it seems like maaaaybe the Hannah Montana star should stop showing up in photos. Who WON'T Be Directing the Umbrella Academy Movie?

A few weeks ago, My Chemical Romance's cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" rocked the internet.  The song, which will be featured in the upcoming film adaptation of Watchmen, mixes modern pop-punk sounds with Dylan's classic lyrics.  And that Ray Toro guitar solo is pretty damn sweet.

But one member of My Chemical Romance will be thinking about another comic-to-film adaptation while the band works on their new album.  Gerard Way will see his comic, The Umbrella Academy, made into a film within the next few years.  And while we still don't have many details, we do have one thing confirmed regarding the director.

Alfonso Cuaron, who directed Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, will NOT be directing The Umbrella Academy.  As he told MTV.com's movie blog "I like ‘The Umbrella Academy’ but I’m not associated with it."

Cuaron was never officially tied to the project, however he was the director Gerard named when asked who he'd like to see helm the production.  No word yet on the other names Gerard threw out, including the two Academy Award Winners he'd mentioned: Diablo Cody for the screenplay and Colleen Atwood for the costume design.  Also, no casting rumors have started yet.  So I think I'll start one right now: I heard a rumor that Robert Pattinson may be trying to get out of his contract for Eclipse in order to play The Seance in the TUA film adaptation.  I have no sources on this because I'm trying to figure out if I share The Rumor's superpower.

Don't know what The Rumor's power is?  Then you, my friend, should be reading The Umbrella Academy.

Patrick Stump Defends Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band

In the few days that have passed since Super Bowl XLIII, there has been a lot of buzz over a "controversy" that took place before and during the game.  And no, this has nothing to do with taking away the Pittsburgh Steelers' sixth Super Bowl Ring (WE HAVE SIX NOW.  SIX.  SUCK IT, NEW ENGLAND), but has everything to do with the musical performances that took place.

Apparently, during their rocking half time performance, the E Street Band used a backing track while Bruce Springsteen sang along.  This has led to much nasty commentary by the internet and many Ashlee Simpson references.  However, a hero has stepped up from the crowd to declare that the backing track was not only a good thing, but was absolutely necessary.  Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump has explained the science behind the backing tracks: Read more...
